Understanding Shockwave Therapy: What It Treats and What to Expect

Shockwave therapy uses acoustic pressure waves delivered through the skin to stimulate healing in tendons and other soft tissue that's stopped responding to rest alone. It comes up most often for stubborn, chronic issues — think plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, or Achilles tendinopathy — where the tissue needs a fresh stimulus to kickstart repair.

What a session looks like

You'll feel a series of rapid pulses at the treatment site. It's not painless, but most patients tolerate it well, and sessions typically run under fifteen minutes. We start at a lower intensity and adjust based on how you respond.

How it fits into your plan

Shockwave is rarely used on its own. It's usually paired with guided exercise and, where relevant, adjustment — the shockwave addresses the tissue, the rest of the plan addresses the mechanics that got you there in the first place.

What to expect afterward

Some soreness in the treated area for a day or two is normal. We reassess at your next visit to decide whether to continue, adjust intensity, or move to a different tool.
